What Is "It?"

Make "It" Happen Mastery helps you lead better, communicate better, and serve better.

But what is "It?"  We use the word "It" all the time to refer to things that are both ambiguous and important.  Consider these sayings:

You're "It!" (kids playing tag)

Just Do "It"  (Nike slogan)

"It's" about time!

Bring "It" on!

Don't leave home without "It."  (American Express Slogan)

Think about "It". . .

I'm loving "It"  (McDonald's slogan)

This is "It."

I'll know "It" when I see "It."

When "It" rains, "It" pours.

Have "It" your way. (Burger King slogan)

What's "It" all about?

Forget about "It."

"It's" the real thing (Coca Cola slogan)

We talk about "It" all the time, without always defining "It."  When marketers use the word "It" in a slogan instead of the name of their product, it is for a good reason.  McDonald's doesn't say "I'm lovin' my Big Mac."  It is because they are trying to deflect your attention from the actual product (which in this case isn't actually healthy) and focus on the greater experience of eating McDonald's food.  They want you to thing about what you feel like when you eat a Big Mac.  Maybe you have a Big Mac every time you go on vacation, or as a treat to celebrate something.  "It" conjures up all the good feelings you have when you are vacationing or celebrating.  "It" is a powerful marketing tool!

We also use the word "It" to mean something significant.  When you are ready to launch a new product, you might say "This is 'It'!" meaning that what happens next will be very important to our future or the future of our organization.  If we said "This is 'Our Product Launch'" it wouldn't have the same sense of gravity.  Using "It" means it is really important.

We all have one or more "Its" in our lives.  Our "Its" are the work that is most important to us, our livelihoods, our favorite hobbies, our passions, our dreams.  To ignore our "Its" is to fall apart.

What is your "It?"  Let us help you bring your "It" to life!
